SCHOOL SUPPORT WORKER SERVICE

WHAT IS THE SCHOOL SUPPORT WORKER SERVICE?

THE STUDENT SUPPORT WORKER WORKS CLOSELY WITH THE SCHOOL COUNSELLOR AND OTHER MEMBERS OF THE SCHOOL-BASED TEAM TO PROVIDE SERVICES THAT SUPPORT CHILDREN TO LEARN NEW SKILLS AND COPING STRATEGIES TO MANAGE THEIR BEHAVIOR AND ACHIEVE SOCIAL, EMOTIONAL AND ACADEMIC SUCCESS IN THE SCHOOL SETTING. SERVICES MAY BE DELIVERED THROUGH INDIVIDUAL OR GROUP SUPPORTS DEPENDING ON THE DEVELOPMENTAL NEEDS OF THE INDIVIDUAL CHILD, AND ARE DESIGNED TO BUILD ON A RANGE OF SKILLS THAT HELP IMPROVE THE CHILDREN’S OVERALL FUNCTIONING.

HOW TO ACCESS THIS SERVICE?

How to access this service?

Referrals are generated by the school-based teams and come directly from the Administration or School Counsellors. Service begin following parental consent to their child’s involvement with our services.

Services are currently provided at George Pringle Elementary, Hudson Elementary, Chief Tomat Elementary, Casorso Elementary and North Glenmore Elementary Schools.

HOW LONG DOES THE SCHOOL SUPPORT WORKER WORK WITH CHILDREN AND YOUTH?

Support services are provided in the school setting and frequency and duration is based on the individual needs of the children and youth. Services typically take place on a weekly or bi-weekly basis and length of services is determined in collaboration with the student, parents and school-based team.
