WHAT IS THE SUPPORT SERVICES FOR FAMILIES (WITH FASD OR SIMILAR NEURO-DEVELOPMENTAL CONDITIONS) PROGRAM?
THE SUPPORT SERVICES FOR FAMILIES PROGRAM IS A COMMUNITY BASED OUTREACH SERVICE DESIGNED TO ENHANCE PROTECTIVE FACTORS AND REDUCE RISK FACTORS FOR A YOUNG PERSON WITH FASD AND BUILD THE CAPACITY OF THEIR FAMILIES TO PROVIDE ONGOING NURTURING CARE FOR THEIR CHILDREN.
THE SUPPORT SERVICES FOR FAMILIES OPERATES USING A CAREGIVER-DRIVEN APPROACH THAT FOCUSES ON THE FAMILY’S INDIVIDUAL NEEDS.
What services do we provide?
THE KEYWORKERS OPERATE IN A GUIDE ROLE TO PROVIDE FAMILIES WITH THE FOLLOWING:
ASSISTANCE WITH INTERPRETING, COORDINATING, AND IMPLEMENTING IHCAN ASSESSMENT RECOMMENDATIONS.
N-HOME SUPPORT SERVICES AND STRATEGIES THAT HELP INCREASE THE CHILD’S SUCCESS IN THE HOME AND COMMUNITY ENVIRONMENT.
SERVICE PLANNING (GOAL DEVELOPMENT) BASED ON THE INDIVIDUAL STRENGTHS, NEEDS, ABILITIES NAD PREFERENCES OF EACH YOUTH
EDUCATION AND CONSULTATION SERVICES FOR FAMILIES AND COMMUNITY PARTNERS.
SUPPORT WITH SCHOOL/EDUCATIONAL PLANNING.
ASSISTANCE WITH ACCESSING COMMUNITY RESOURCES AND SERVICES.
SUPPORT SERVICES FOR FAMILIES OFFERS A PARENT SUPPORT COMPONENT THAT PROVIDES CAREGIVERS WITH THE OPPORTUNITY TO CONNECT WITH ONE ANOTHER IN A SUPPORTIVE GROUP ENVIRONMENT. IT IS A SAFE PLACE TO MEET OTHER PARENTS EXPERIENCING SIMILAR CHALLENGES AND SUCCESSES. THIS SERVICE ALSO OFFERS PERIODIC EDUCATION SESSIONS AND DISTRIBUTES A PARENT CONNECTION NEWSLETTER.
How to access this service?
The parent support services are provided to any parent that has a child that is living with FASD or a similar Complex Developmental Behavioural Condition, probable or diagnosed.
Referrals to the program will come from Interior Health service providers, other multi-disciplinary teams specializing in FASD Assessments, MCFD Guardianship social workers (for a child in care), and/or other professionals, such as pediatricians and child psychiatrists, school district staff, and parent/caregiver self-referrals.
ARC Programs provides this service in the Central Okanagan and West Kootenay regions.
HOW LONG DOES THE FASD FAMILY SUPPORT SERVICES PROGRAM WORK WITH YOUTH?
Duration and frequency of service depends on the individual needs and goals of each family.
THE YOUTH SERVICES PROGRAM PROVIDES CASE MANAGEMENT/SERVICE COORDINATION AND SUPPORT SERVICES TO: ASSIST HOMELESS/HIGH-RISK YOUTH TO ADDRESS PERSONAL BARRIERS TO BECOMING INDEPENDENT; AND/OR SUPPORT SEXUALLY EXPLOITED YOUTH TO REDUCE THEIRTHE SUPPORT SERVICES FOR FAMILIES PROGRAM IS A COMMUNITY BASED OUTREACH SERVICE DESIGNED TO ENHANCE PROTECTIVE FACTORS AND REDUCE RISK FACTORS FOR A YOUNG PERSON WITH FASD AND BUILD THE CAPACITY OF THEIR FAMILIES TO PROVIDE ONGOING NURTURING CARE FOR THEIR CHILDREN. INVOLVEMENT IN SEXUAL EXPLOITATION RELATED ACTIVITIES. THE PROGRAM SUPPORTS YOUTH ON YOUTH AGREEMENTS THROUGH THE MINISTRY FOR CHILD AND FAMILY DEVELOPMENT.
