Boundaries Program

WHAT IS THE BOUNDARIES PROGRAM?

THE BOUNDARIES PROGRAM PROVIDES INTENSIVE INDIVIDUAL SUPPORT TO YOUTH AGES 12-18 WHO HAVE BEEN CONVICTED OF A SERIOUS OFFENCE, AND DIRECTED TO ATTEND A COURT-ORDERED DEFERRED CUSTODY PROGRAM UNDER THE YOUTH CRIMINAL JUSTICE ACT.

YOUTH ARE REFERRED TO ONE OF TWO DIFFERENT SERVICE STREAMS. YOUTH ADMITTED TO THE BOUNDARIES FULL-TIME ATTENDANCE PROGRAM (FTAP) LIVE IN A FAMILY-BASED THERAPEUTIC CARE HOME, EITHER IN KELOWNA OR IN KAMLOOPS. FTAP SERVICES ARE ALSO PROVIDED TO YOUTH WHO REQUIRE LIVE-IN TRANSITION OR BAIL SUPPORT FOR A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME. YOUTH RECEIVING OUTREACH SERVICES ARE PROVIDED WITH SIMILAR SERVICES IN KELOWNA, KAMLOOPS OR OUTLYING COMMUNITIES, BUT REMAIN IN THEIR CURRENT HOME. THE DECISION TO REFER TO ONE PROGRAM OR THE OTHER IS MADE BY YOUTH PROBATION, BASED ON MANDATORY SENTENCING RECOMMENDATIONS.

ALL YOUTH ATTENDING THE BOUNDARIES PROGRAM MUST BE ACTIVELY INVOLVED WITH YOUTH PROBATION AND MUST ATTEND TREATMENT WITH YOUTH FORENSICS PSYCHIATRIC SERVICES, AS WELL AS PARTICIPATE IN COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES.

SERVICE GOALS ARE ESTABLISHED BASED ON THE INDIVIDUAL STRENGTHS, NEEDS, ABILITIES AND PREFERENCES OF EACH YOUTH, AND PROGRESS TOWARDS THESE GOALS IS MONITORED THROUGHOUT YOUTH ATTENDANCE. EACH YOUTH IS CONNECTED WITH A YOUTH JUSTICE COUNSELLOR WHO HELPS THEM TO APPLY TREATMENT CONCEPTS IN THE COMMUNITY AND WORK TOWARDS ACHIEVING THEIR GOALS.

YOUTH AND THEIR FAMILIES ARE THE CENTRAL MEMBERS OF AN INTEGRATED CASE MANAGEMENT TEAM, WHICH INCLUDES THE YOUTH’S PROBATION OFFICER, YFPS CLINICIAN, BOUNDARIES STAFF / CAREGIVERS AS WELL AS OTHER SIGNIFICANT PEOPLE IN THE YOUTH’S LIFE. CASE MANAGEMENT TEAMS WORK WITH THE YOUTH AND THEIR FAMILY TO PROVIDE COMPREHENSIVE SERVICES WHICH REDUCE RISK OF RECIDIVISM AND PLAN FOR THE YOUTH’S END-OF-SERVICE TRANSITION.
