Child, Youth & Family Counsellor

ARC Programs is accepting applications for the position of Child, Youth & Family Counsellors, working in our SOAR Wrap Program, based in Penticton. The Counsellor will provide intensive in-home intervention and support services for referred children & youth in care, their foster families, as well as out-of-care caregivers to reduce the risk of placement breakdown and develop the capacity of the caregivers to manage on an ongoing basis. The Counsellor will work together with Resources and Guardianship Social Workers to provide case management support, as well as working with other involved service providers. The Counsellor will work directly with the program children & youth to support them to engage in other needed services, support life and pro-social skills development, support engagement in recreational and other positive activities, etc. The Counsellor will also be involved in providing support, mentoring, and education of caregivers to engage with the children & youth in their care, as well as providing support and crisis intervention in the caregiver’s home. Program services will mainly be provided on an outreach basis, serving the communities of the south Okanagan.

This is a 30 hour per week position, with the opportunity to add hours with other services we provide in Penticton if needed. Candidates for this position will possess sufficient training and experience to perform all responsibilities of the job description. Ideally, candidates will have experience and training working with children and youth in care, service coordination, parenting education and support, trauma informed care, and the ability to connect with children and youth. The preferred qualifications for the position are; Child and Youth Care Degree, Social Work Degree, BA {Psych Major} and related experience. Candidates with other qualifications such as   HSW Diploma, Child & Youth Care Diploma, or a combination of related training and experience are encouraged to apply. Please be aware that the successful applicant will be eligible for a full benefit package {including dental plan, vision care coverage, life insurance, extended medical coverage {such as massage, chiropractor coverage, etc} long-term disability plan, and RRSP contributions}.  New employees are also eligible for 3 weeks paid vacation to start, along with paid sick days as needed. Wages for this postion start at $23.50 per hour, and go up  depending on qualifications and expereince.
