Due to agency growth and program expansion, ARC Programs is now accepting applications for several new full-time School-based Mental Health Counsellor positions, to support students attending elementary schools within the School District #23 catchment area.
These positions are 30-hours per week, during the 10-month school year (September to the end of June).
Please be aware that one of these positions is temporary – to cover a maternity leave.
School-based Mental Health Counsellors will work with children who may have a mental health diagnosis, or who are experiencing mental health challenges that significantly affect their ability to function in the school and home setting.
Counsellors will work closely with school staff, community services and medical professionals to help children and their families to increase their understanding of the child’s mental health issues. They will support children to develop skills to achieve and maintain mental wellness by providing a range of specialized treatment modalities that are developmentally appropriate, and evidence-based.
Preferred Experience and Qualifications:
Candidates for this position will possess sufficient training and experience to perform all responsibilities of the job description. Knowledge and experience in suicide risk assessment, safety planning and treatment is a strong asset.
The qualifications of the position are a MSW degree, MA Psychology degree, or an equivalent Masters- level degree with direct clinical experience in mental health.
The successful applicants will be subject to a screening process, including a criminal record search, to confirm suitability for the position.
Applicants must have a current Driver’s License, and a sound personal vehicle for business use.
