Mental Health Counsellors - Elementary Schools

ARC Programs is now accepting applications for several (full-time and part-time) Counsellor positions, to support students attending elementary schools within the School District #23 catchment area.

Hours / Schedule >

Full-time positions are up-to 35-hours per week, during the 10-month school year.
Part-time positions are up-to 20-hours per week during the 10-month school year.

Responsibilities >

School-based Mental Health Counsellors will work with children who may have a mental health diagnosis, or who are experiencing mental health challenges that significantly affect their ability to function in the school and home setting.

Counsellors will work closely with school staff, community services and medical professionals to help children and their families to increase their understanding of the child’s mental health issues. They will support children to develop skills to achieve and maintain mental wellness by providing a range of specialized treatment modalities that are evidence-based and developmentally appropriate.

Qualifications >

Candidates for this position will possess sufficient training and experience to perform all responsibilities of the job description.

Knowledge and experience in suicide risk assessment, safety planning and treatment is a strong asset.

A masters-level degree in a relevant discipline (MSW, MA in Counselling or Psychology, etc) is preferred; however, candidates with a bachelors-level degree and extensive (ie: 3+ years) mental health counselling experience will be considered.

Candidates must possess a valid Driver's License and may be required to provide a sound personal vehicle for business use

Successful applicants will be subject to a screening process, including a criminal record search, to confirm suitability for the position.

Wage / Benefits>

$30.95 – $34.40 per hour based on relevant experience and education.

Upon successful completion of a probationary period, full-time employees (minimum 20-hrs per week) are eligible for a full benefit package (including dental plan, vision coverage, life insurance, extended medical coverage, long-term disability plan, and RRSP contributions) during working months.

New full-time employees are eligible for 3-weeks paid vacation to start, and paid sick days as needed.
