Recreational and Peer-Group Social Inclusion Services

Life skills group-based programs will be delivered by the YMCA of Okanagan and BGCO; the City of Kelowna Access Recreation, and the Options Program group. The City of Kelowna will be delivering specialized CYSN activity-based recreation programming and events that are delivered similarly to a session of fitness classes. The programming will serve children ages 6-18. The YMCA of Okanagan will be delivering specific programming on a closed-intake basis for a period of 12 weeks at a time. The age range for their programming will be from 13 to 18 and the goal is for the service to give the participants specific skill-based learning opportunities before they move on to more substantial opportunities in the community. BGCO will provide a peer-to-peer program with a focus on community engagement and social interaction for all children and youth with diverse-abilities from ages 6 to 18. These groups will be hosted at multiple locations across the central Okanagan during the week and on Saturdays. FCC staff (Keyworkers, Behaviour Consultants, Child and Youth Care Workers, Developmental Generalists) will be available as needed to support the partner-agencies in the initial and ongoing development of the group programs and content, to maximize the impact of the services and best-meet the needs of children and youth participating.
