WHAT IS THE SUPPORT SERVICES FOR FAMILIES (WITH FASD OR SIMILAR NEURO-DEVELOPMENTAL CONDITIONS) PROGRAM?

THE SUPPORT SERVICES FOR FAMILIES PROGRAM IS A COMMUNITY BASED OUTREACH SERVICE DESIGNED TO ENHANCE PROTECTIVE FACTORS AND REDUCE RISK FACTORS FOR A YOUNG PERSON WITH FASD AND BUILD THE CAPACITY OF THEIR FAMILIES TO PROVIDE ONGOING NURTURING CARE FOR THEIR CHILDREN.

THE SUPPORT SERVICES FOR FAMILIES OPERATES USING A CAREGIVER-DRIVEN APPROACH THAT FOCUSES ON THE FAMILY’S INDIVIDUAL NEEDS.

School Support Worker Service

WHAT IS THE SCHOOL SUPPORT WORKER SERVICE?

THE STUDENT SUPPORT WORKER WORKS CLOSELY WITH THE SCHOOL COUNSELLOR AND OTHER MEMBERS OF THE SCHOOL-BASED TEAM TO PROVIDE SERVICES THAT SUPPORT CHILDREN TO LEARN NEW SKILLS AND COPING STRATEGIES TO MANAGE THEIR BEHAVIOR AND ACHIEVE SOCIAL, EMOTIONAL AND ACADEMIC SUCCESS IN THE SCHOOL SETTING. SERVICES MAY BE DELIVERED THROUGH INDIVIDUAL OR GROUP SUPPORTS DEPENDING ON THE DEVELOPMENTAL NEEDS OF THE INDIVIDUAL CHILD, AND ARE DESIGNED TO BUILD ON A RANGE OF SKILLS THAT HELP IMPROVE THE CHILDREN'S OVERALL FUNCTIONING.

School-based Mental Health Counselling

WHAT IS THE SCHOOL-BASED MENTAL HEALTH COUNSELLING SERVICE?

SCHOOL-BASED MENTAL HEALTH COUNSELLORS PROVIDE SERVICES TO CHILDREN AND YOUTH IN SELECT ELEMENTARY AND HIGH SCHOOLS WHO ARE EXPERIENCING MENTAL HEALTH CHALLENGES THAT ARE AFFECTING THEIR ABILITY TO FUNCTION IN THE SCHOOL SETTING. THE CHILDREN AND YOUTH REFERRED MAY HAVE PREVIOUS MENTAL HEALTH DIAGNOSIS, OR MAY BE EXPERIENCING DIFFICULTIES COPING WITH THEIR THOUGHTS, EMOTIONS, AND BEHAVIORS.
